HISTORY OF THE SALON SNBA

The Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts (SNBA) is the name of two French artist's unions. The first union was founded in 1862, with Théophile Gautier as a president and Aimé Millet as his deputy. The committee was composed with the painters Eugen Delacroix, Carrier-Belleuse, Pierre Puvis de Chavannes. Among the exhibitors were Léon Bonnat, Jean Baptist Carpeaux, Charles - François Daubigny, Laura Fredducci, Gustave Doré, Édouard Manet. Shortly after the death of Delacroix, in 1864, the union organised a commemorative exhibition with 248 works and finished temporarily her activities.

In 1890, the union was revived under the chairmanship Ernest Meissonier and with Pierre Puvis de Chavannes, Émile Auguste Carolus-Duran, Félix Bracquemond, Jules Dalou and Auguste Rodin as members of the exhibition committee and starts to carry out the annual exhibitions lasting till present as the Salon de Champ-de-Mars, which opened traditionally fourteen days later, as from by Société des Artistes Français organised Salon de Champs-Élysées. Nowadays, organises the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts (SNBA) the annual exhibitions in the halls of the Carousel du Louvre Paris
